30 months after the release of our last studio album, on Friday 16 May we are releasing These Days, the first track from the next album. A video follows a week later, then we round off the month of May with our headline gig at the Red Arrow Music Club, Ramsgate, Kent.
I am both excited and apprehensive at the prospect of our first original release for some time. These Days drops on all streaming platforms on Friday 16 May 2025 and you can pre-save it here.
Since The Space Between Us, our fifth studio album, was released in November 2022, Steve Birkett and I have spent much of that time creating new music, as well as delivering the series of cover songs that were pulled together into the recently released Stranger Blue EP. These Days was one of the first original tracks that emerged from the writing process and having secured its place in the final list of tracks for the new album, it is the first to be shared. As usual, the music and lyrics were written by Steve and me, and the track was mixed and mastered by Gavin Monaghan at his Magic Garden studios in Wolverhampton.
For all sorts of reasons, it's been a fairly long hiatus, so it’s really exciting to be bringing forward new music, and I can’t wait for people to hear it. The song was written in 2023 and reflects not only how I felt at the time but also a broader perspective on the world at large, a situation that if anything has got worse since! We live in strange times, and this song channels an alignment of personal mood and the nature of current events in a dark, atmospheric rock track that has a similar vibe to Not On My Knees from the previous album.
Steve Birkett said this about the track “It is always a big moment when you launch new music. It’s a song in a style that should be very familiar to our fans, and while the lyrics are very personal, the sentiment will resonate with many people at a time when current affairs are having a significant negative impact on mood and morale. Despite its message, it was a song that we very much enjoyed creating and Gavin’s work on the mixing and mastering is, as ever, excellent. I can’t wait to hear what people think of it."
There will be an Official Video for the new track on our YouTube channel on Friday 23 May (please subscribe and sign up for notifications if you haven't done so already). It is another creation by Colin Speller and me, and was filmed in the exotic location of mainland Greece. There is a disused railway station at Myloi on the Peloponnese Peninsula, which is actually a train nerd's paradise as it has decaying steam and diesel engines dotted about the yard, and it made a great setting for our film. Despite filming in the evening, temperatures were still in the high 30's and the mosquitos were biting furiously, so there was some suffering for the art! It was a lot of fun, though, and we are really pleased with the end result. I hope you like it too.
We will be dropping singles throughout the summer in advance of the album release, which is scheduled for 31 October 2025, and you will hear all about them here.
