The first episode of Series 3 of Downes Your Way is out today on all podcast platforms. Find it on your platform of choice here. In Series 2, I took a look at the state of the UK grassroots blues/rock scene in discussion with some fellow artists. Now, two years on, I am returning to the same ground to look at the current state of play. My hypothesis, based on my own experience and what I hear from others, is that things have got a lot worse. So, the plan is to test that in discussion with some artists, managers and others around the scene who I know have strong views on the issues that we face. Once again, this series is made in association with Blues in Britain Magazine.
Join us, as we lift the bonnet and look at the engine of our scene to assess how well it is running. If you ever wanted to know what artists discuss when we’re backstage, well, at the moment the conversation is usually based around what the podcasts cover. We’re not having a moan, just talking honestly.
In this first episode, I talk to my brother-from-another-mother, Alan Nimmo, leader – in every sense – of the fabulous King King. In Series 2, Alan’s honest and heartfelt revelations about the challenges he was facing caused quite a stir, so he was a logical choice to kick off this series.
Episode 2, featuring manager and promoter Mark Ede will be out this coming Friday, 18 July, with new episodes each Friday thereafter.
I hope you find it interesting. Rebecca xx
